Mamluk
In South America, Mameluke is also the term used to identify people of mixed European origin with Native Americans. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Mameluco referred to organized bands of Portuguese (mixed or not) slave hunters, also known as bandeirantes, who roamed the interior of South America from the Atlantic to the Andean slopes, and from Paraguay to Orinoco making raids between areas inhabited by the Guarani in search of slaves.
